About Us

Connective Development is a consulting and advisory firm originally founded in 2010 and dedicated to strategy execution services for mission-driven and public sector organizations.

In our early years the firm’s primary focus was developing strategy for technology firms including recommendations on new products, markets, and go-to-market approaches.

We’ll be honest: many of our recommendations in those days were enthusiastically received…but never implemented. We came to understand we were wasting client time and money unless we focused on helping them articulate, plan, execute and institutionalize their strategy. Put simply: we realized it’s not enough to have a strategy; the hard part is to be strategic.

Throughout our work we were doing pro bono work for nonprofits, and we realized that while we had many wonderful clients, our work with mission-driven organizations (for-profit and nonprofit) brought a sense of purpose and meaning. Over time we expanded to work with public sector clients.

These experiences led to our current focus as advisors, consultants, and interim executives for mission-driven and public sector organizations struggling to achieve growth through realization of strategy.

John Cornwell (Founder, Principal) has 20 years of experience in strategy: development, planning, alignment, and execution. He has worked with non-profit, public sector and for-profit clients across healthcare, higher education, technology, and telecom as an advisor and interim exec. His business storytelling program has over 1,200 graduates.

John is a two-time entrepreneur, non-profit board member, and father. He is the thankful son of two public school teachers who ingrained the value of working in service of others.
